2013 National Chess Day - Freeport
As is`becoming traditional for National Chess Day (October 12th this year), the Route 20 Chess Club ran a no fee tournament at the Freeport Public Library.
In the adult section Will Engel achieved first with a record of 4.5, Zach Kauffman achieved second with a record of 4.0, and Jonathan Gaenzle achieved third with a record of 3.5.
In the 4-6 and 7-12 grade joint section John Werkheiser achieved first with a record of 5.0, Marius Schradermeier achieved second with a record of 4.0, and John Neil achieved third with a record of 3.0, with an overall tie with Ariana Tolu-Honary. Ariana achieved first in the 4-6 with a record of 3.0, and Shawn Wolfe achieved second in the 4-6 with a record of 1.0.

National Chess Day 10/12/13
On Saturday October 12,2013, the Route 20 Chess Club will be hosting a chess tournament at the Freeport Public Library. The tournament is free 4/SS G/20 and has 4 sections. The sections consist of the grade levels of K-3, 4-6, 7-12, and an adults only section. All sections are unrated, and medals are awarded. USCF memberships will not be required. On site registration is 9:15-9:45; first round starts at 10:00 a.m., and later rounds start at 11:00 a.m.,1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m., sets will be provided.

Pretzel Pawn Power
On August 10, 2013 Route 20 Chess Club is hosting a tournament at Freeport High School Cafeteria. The cost is 14 dollars for non-club members and 8 dollars for club members. Their are 2 sections: Open and Rated Beginners Open, Registration is from 9:00-9:45. Round 1 will start at 10:00.
Open rounds start at 10:00, 1:00, 3:30 with G/60d5 time control. A 80% total cash prize will be awarded for the top 3 winners.
RBO (players rated under 1200) start at 10:00, 11:15, 1:00, 2:15, 3:30 with G/30d5 time control. Trophies awarded for the top 3 places and an award for the top unrated player if their are 3 or more entries.

Next Chess Tournament
Route 20 chess club will be hosting a tournament August 10, 2013 at the Freeport high school cafeteria. The open section will have cash prizes and time control will be G/65 SS/3. The RBO will be under 1200 with non-cash prizes and time control G/30 SS/5. The cost will include 14$ for non-club members and 8$ for club members.

Tournament Report
Last Saturday (January 19) the Route 20 Chess Club ran the "Bungle in the Jungle" tournament. Low attendance resulted in round Robbins for both sections. Winners in the OPEN were Ben Spinallo with 1st place, Jonathan Gaenzle with 2nd place, and Zack Kauffman with 3rd place. John Werkheiser was 1st overall in the RBO with Nadine Didier and Matt Werkheiser 1st and 2nd under 18.
